1010 Architecture Urbanism

This competition entry wished to come back to earth and confront life in all its organic fecundity and creativity. How would a station look when an old river is unearthed right in front of it? Can houses be developed on a floodable area next to the Escaut? How to give visibility to the clay layer that made Boom the epicentre of the brick industry during the early 20th century? It is an attempt to contest the technocratic logic by which these infrastructures are imposed, and introduce different kinds of behavior.

Alongside the station, the river will be given more space. Where it now flows unloved along the fences of the backyards, it would flow over unsealed parking lots. The old station building will make way for a new bus station. What used to be side by side will be intertwined. Suddenly you would step off the train into a park and directly choose the bus towards the next stop on your journey or just hop on your bike and follow another path.
