BOOM
Boom's station today looks rather desolate. Imagine a context, that is but a mere combination of infrastructural logics applied to flows and landuse. The inbetween zones compartimentalize the whole; from the platform, to the abandoned station hall, to a bus station with parking lots pushed against it, to the fences of the backyards of the houses. The municipality of Boom and the province of Antwerp wished to obtain a master plan for the renewal and redevelopment of this station area.
The site sits on top of an old river (the Molenbeek) and is squeezed by a highway and other traffic arteries. Remnants of a time when cities decided to bury the living environment that had made them possible in the first place: the water, the soil, the agriculture and the forests. Our proposal meant to intervene punctually by weaving the sometimes overwhelming infrastructure with smaller knots generated by these histories of urbanization.
