As a concrete result of the TOP-Noordrand program the 1010-team (in collaboration with GGau, Boom Landscape & BCI) was selected to develop a spatial and programmatic design research for the Leopold III-site, a 90ha site owned by the Federal state and situated on the border between the Brussels and Flanders region. This large portion of land just a stone's throw away from the airport is until today occupied by a campus of the ministry of Defense and the European NATO headquarters, who are soon to move to their new infrastructure. The aim of this design research is to create a collective spatial and programmatic development vision as a framework for an ambitious and sustainable mixed urban development. We created various spatial scenarios and a set of arguments that were used as a discussion tool during multiple workshops and meetings with various institutional partners from both regions.
