Seasonal house
Before the industrialisation of agriculture, farms were depending upon the physical power of seasonal workers to work the land and harvest. Many workers were traveling from farm to farm to earn their living. This house was build in the beginning of the 20th century as a temporary residence for these seasonal workers. Once tractors & big harvesting machines became the standard, this function became redundant and the house was transformed into a stable for pigs, rabbits and poultry. After almost one century of braving wind and weather, the structure suffered serious structural damage and a choice had to be made between renovation or tearing down. The owner decided for renovation and functional flexibility: storage for bikes, hobby atelier, covered playground for the children and venue for occasional friends & family gatherings. 1010 developed a design that very functional but equally unveils the poetic potential of the place. As much as possible original materials were re-used, keeping the original spirit of the building and ready to survive another century!
